THE 3GC UPDATE

Feb. 2018

3 Generations Collaboration connects youth and older adults through community service and volunteering in the West River Valley and adjacent areas.

PLEASE DO THIS FIRST
Please add team3gc@gmail.com to your safe e-mail senders list. We’re considering using Mailchimp to send newsletters, and this will help it get through your spam filter. If you’re not sure how to do this, come to Tech Help Club and we’ll show you how!

POSTER CONTEST – DEADLINE MARCH 27
Teens are invited to design a poster on the theme “Community Service Changes Lives.”
Two $50 prizes will be awarded, thanks to a grant from the Crosby-Gannett Fund. The contest is open to students in grades 7-12 who attend Leland & Gray or live in one of the following towns: Brookline, Jamaica, Newfane, Townshend, Windham. Home schoolers are welcome to participate. Full contest rules are at www.team3GC.org, or contact us for a printed copy. We’ll also run an ESSAY CONTEST later, so sign up for our Volunteer Text Alerts to get a reminder of that!

Sign up for VOLUNTEER TEXT ALERTS
Help us harness the power of networking! We need people of all ages to join our Volunteer Text Alerts list. We’ll send occasional text messages to get out the word about new or critical volunteer activities. Even if you can’t volunteer, you’ll be part of the solution when you forward to friends who might be interested. To sign up, send “Join” as a text message to 802-428-4333. Not sure how to send or forward a text message? See Tech Help Club above!

RIDES AVAILABLE TO POLICING DISCUSSION THIS THURSDAY
A Community Dialogue on Police Coverage & Law Enforcement in Townshend will happen on Feb 15, from 5-7 PM at Leland & Gray school. 3GC is offering rides to adults who are unable to drive there. Call us at 802-428-4333 by 5 PM Wednesday to arrange a ride.

THANKS TO OUR AWESOME VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers make a difference, volunteers rock our world!

TECH HELP CLUB
All are welcome to drop in for help with digital devices at Tech Help Club on MONDAY afternoons from 3-4PM at the Townshend Public Library. Young volunteers will team up with 3GC to offer demos, advice, orientations, and safety tips for choosing and using digital devices such as smartphones, computers, and tablets. If you want to make sure we’ll be able to answer your particular question, contact us in advance at 802-428-4333 or team3gc@gmail.org.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR SPRING TEA
If you’re a teen, get community service hours by helping with this event where we treat our adult participants to delectable victuals from Vermont Quince and other local businesses. Youths may help prepare and serve refreshments, or entertain the group with instrumental music or spoken word performance.

BUILD YOUR OWN SERVICE
We always have a variety of volunteer opportunities posted at www.team3gc.org. But if you don’t see something that works for you, please contact us! Awesome service activities grow out of our conversations with individuals about their own interests. We love to learn what you have to offer and then find a way for you to help people by doing your thing!

EASY WAY TO DONATE
For our supporters who wish to donate using a credit card, debit card, or paypal, we now have a “Donate Now” button on the web site at www.team3gc.org

WE STILL NEED A BUTTON MAKER!
We’d like 3GC volunteers to wear pins with our logo when they’re on duty. Please contact us if you have a button maker we can borrow or adopt!

PURELY YOU
To increase accessibility, 3GC aims to make its events and activities as fragrance-free as possible. Growing numbers of people – especially children and elders – suffer breathing difficulties, disabling allergic symptoms, or migraines after exposure to fragrance ingredients that are unregulated chemicals. So please, when you volunteer with 3GC, leave off the scented lotion, body spray and other fragranced products. We prefer 100% unadulterated community service, and we’re okay with the natural smell of human beings.

Thanks so much for your interest and support.
